How much should a Border Collie eat?
A typical adult Border Collie weighs 14 to 20kg. We use the standard vet formula: resting energy (70 × weight in kg to the power 0.75), times a life-stage factor for your dog, divided by the 3,600 kcal in each kilo of our kibble. For most adults the factor sits between 1.4 (neutered, not very active) and 1.8 (entire and busy).
| Adult weight | Quieter (×1.4) | Typical (×1.6) | Busy (×1.8) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14kg | 195g | 225g | 255g |
| 17kg | 230g | 260g | 295g |
| 20kg | 255g | 295g | 330g |
That's grams of dry food a day, split over two meals. For a 17kg Border Collie on Canny Chicken, the quiz shows the exact cost per day from the Founding 100 price, before you give us any details. Treats count: if yours gets a lot, the quiz takes them off the bowl.
Which recipe suits a Border Collie?
Canny Chicken suits most active adult Collies: chicken first, rice for slow-release energy. Gentle Lamb is the swap for a sensitive stomach. Very active working Collies can need more than the range below (our engine uses a higher factor for 'very active'), and quieter pet Collies sit at the bottom of it.

Border Collie questions
How much should a Border Collie eat?
A typical 17kg adult needs about 230g to 295g a day of our kibble. A working dog on the go all day may need more; the quiz asks.
Does my Collie need a high-protein food?
Most pet Collies do fine on a complete adult food fed at the right amount. If yours is working hard, tell us and we'll adjust the grams.
Can I change the portion between drops?
Yes. Update the weight or activity on your account and the next bag's grams change.
